Ka boom:
Unfortunately we hit ledge so Woody the blaster is coming tomorrow to dynamite it out.
He said it will take about 3 days to blast.  Its in the right back corner of the house.  About 1/2 of the area where we need to dig for the foundation.  This will set us back a week.  Lisa has been spending a lot of time on the lighting and fan selection while I have been working on getting the right chimney setup for the wood stove,  We have also been making the final decisions on the remaining subs to use.  We are behind schedule and over budget and the party is just beginning . Oh well, we will turn that around.  Attached are some unfocused pictures of some large stumps (sorry) and our trip to NH as well as the beginning of the digging of the foundation.
Big Stump!!! Adam chillin. 1st time his pickup was able to drive up to bldg. lot. Look at the size of that stump. Paul Freeman. He designed our house and is the owner of Brooks Post & beam. He is looking through cut ends to find us pieces of wood that have an engineers stamp on it. Eastern white pine already cut into timbers. These are not for our house but for another house in CT.
This machine was built by the original owner of Brooks Post & Beam, Phil Brooks. This was the 1st automated timber frame machine in the US. Paul wrote all of the source code for the computerization of the machine. Its real old school. Pretty cool. Lisa in Brooks workshop collecting samples of eastern white pine and pegs to take home as souvenirs. Eastern white pine beams ready to go. Some of the beams are cut with machine and some are cut by hand. Old school machine
10/12/09 - outline of house is painted onto site 10/12/09 - This house looks tiny. It should get bigger once it has walls. 10/12/09 - the digging commences 10/12/09 - Jays going for it
10/12/09 - the dirt pile is getting bigger. At this point everything looks good. 10/12/09 - uh oh. Its either a really big rock or ledge. 10/12/09 - ITS LEDGE. Not what we wanted to hear. It was not unexpected as Peter & Bettylou had encountered ledge when they built their house. 10/12/09 - There is just more and more of it.
10/12/09 - Jay is trying to chip it away but to no avail. 10/12/09 - Its time to call the blaster. 10/12/09 - Jay moving some big rocks that he dug out of the hole. 10/12/09 - offloading some soil and rocks from the foundation hole.
10/12/09 - The left back corner of our foundation 10/12/09 - our beautiful ledge 10/12/09 - Jay gassing up the excavator. He has a fuel tank on the back of his pickup. It looks like a tool box that you see on the beds of pickups. Pretty cool. 10/12/09 - Adam relaxing in his new home with Oz and Raz keeping watch out for deer.
10/12/09 - Not so happy about the ledge. Trying to calculate the cost of blasting.

Well, there's another installment.  Tomorrow the fun begins.  Raspberry is afraid of thunder so the next 3 days is going to be really rough on her.  We use a herbal supplement that relaxes to get her through thunder storms so it should help for this.  Poor girl.
