Lisa & Adam Goldberg Deer Hill Blog #5

Written by Lisa & Adam Goldberg
Hey:
We changed the name of the blog to reflect the name of the subdivision "Deer Hill".  Actually I hated typing it because it sounded so lame.  I'll try this out for a couple of blogs.  Anyway, we spent 2 days blasting ledge, one of which was in a snow storm.  We have cool pictures.  We have been working hard on purchasing all sort of electrical and plumbing supplies as well as meeting with the lumber yard so that they can start getting our lumber prepared.  We have received our contract for our timber frame so that will get under way very shortly.  Probably the 1st week of November we will go up to NH (Adam for 3 days, Lisa for 1 day) to help work on our frame @ Brooks.  That should be a lot of fun.  The footings for our foundation happen on Tuesday and will be inspected the same day.  Then comes the foundation walls.  All we do is go to work or work on the house.  We are not complaining because we are having lots of fun.  This is definitely our kind of project.
10/14/09 - Dave & Jay drilling holes so they can blast 10/14/09 - Jay working the drill 10/14/09 - Dave & Jay are brothers & Dave is the older brother so he gets the easier & less messy job. 10/14/09 - This was the 1st explosion of 3.  It was the smallest.  They pile dirt & rocks over the site so that the explosion will not throw rocks a far distance.  This was to make sure that nothing would fly towards Peter & Bettylou' house.10/14/09 - This was the 1st explosion of 3. It was the smallest.
10/14/09 - Cleaning away all of the dirt and rocks pile. Bye, bye ledge. 10/14/09 - This is the ledge all blown to pieces. 10/1409 - We now own a lot of rock & this is only the beginning. Anyone wanna buy some rocks? 10/14/09 - Box of dynamite. Dave & Jay are very casual with this stuff. Jay is cutting it in half with a pocket knife & half of a stick just falls on the ground. No big deal. Oops.
10/15/09 - The dynamite waiting to get wired & then dropped into the holes that were drilled 10/15/09 - You can see the wire & a half stick of dynamite waiting to be connected to each other. 10/15/09 - Jay making the wire connections and then dropping the dynamite down the holes. He then uses the pole to make sure that it has reached the bottom. 10/15/09 - Half stick of dynamite all wired and ready to go.
10/15/09 - Dave wiring some dynamite 10/15/09 - All of the sticks get hooked up to this box. 10/15/09 - We are all hooked up and ready to go. 10/15/09 - Ka boom!!!
10/15/09 - Wow look at the rock. It split the ledge about 6 feet strait down. 10/15/09 - A sheer line of ledge. 10/15/09 - It started to snow later in the day. This is a close up of the explosion. The small white dots are snow. 10/15/09 - Please somebody, anyone, buy some rocks?
10/15/09 - Its just amazing what some dynamite can do. We ended up with over an inch of snow from this storm. 10/15/09 - This is a good picture of what's left of the ledge. This is the back of the whole for our foundation. 10/15/09 - The rocks are starting to get cleared out 10/15/09 - Amazing number of rocks. Now they all have to be cleared out and the cellar needs to be dug. We are finished with blasting.
10/17/09 - Lisa checking out some really cool rock 10/17/09 - Lisa in front of the ledge that was blasted away. 10/17/09 - Now this looks like a cellar. 10/17/09 - Father & Daughter taking a early morning tour of the lot.
10/17/09 - Father, Daughter & granddog in front of the back cellar wall. 10/17/09 - Peter is coming in the front door of the house. The front of the cellar where the walk out basement is going to be. 10/17/09 - This is our hole!!!

We hope you enjoy this as much as we are enjoying building this.  If so please send donations.    (just kidding).  Thanks for reading.
