Lisa & Adam Goldberg Deer Hill Blog #6

Written by Lisa & Adam Goldberg

It has been 1 month since we broke ground.  Things are moving quickly.  We have a foundation. Fulton Foundations started on Tuesday building the forms for the footings and by Friday they took down the forms for the foundation walls.  These guys hustle.  We used 89 yards of concrete (9 trucks) and a lot of rebar.  Overkill on the rebar.  We are really excited because it is starting to look like something, a house maybe?  We also received our 1st purchase from Direct Buy.  Our outdoor sconces came in.  Pretty cool.  Anyway here are some pictures.  By the way we love comments & suggestions.

10/20/09 - Tuesday 7:45 AM - The beginning - An empty palette. 10/20/09 - The foundation crew start surveying for the footings 10/20/09 - 9 AM the footings are taking shape. 10/20/09 - 1:30 PM we just had our inspection and the 1st of 3 concrete trucks has arrived to begin pouring the footings. These guys move quick.
10/20/09 - Because our engineer says that we have ocean front property (within 30 miles of the ocean) we have an inordinate amount of rebar in the footings and foundation. This is a picture of the footing of one of our retaining walls. 10/20/09 - This footing will be stepped up a piece of ledge that we only partially blasted. 10/20/09 - Finished forms for the footing 10/20/09 - And the cement begins to flow. Now the real money begins.
10/20/09 Foreman Joe and the boys moving cement. This is going up the ledge in the previous picture. 10/20/09 - The cement truck had one tire in the hole while the cement was flowing. It was crazy. 10/20/09 - Cement truck with the boys working hard. Is this a union job?  1 Guy is working and the rest are watching!  Teachers please do not take offense.  The pour finished by 4:30 PM.10/20/09 - Cement truck with the boys working hard. Is this a union job? 10/21/09 - Rebar anyone. This is the retaining wall. The forms have been removed from the footings and they are putting up the forms for the foundation walls.
10/21/09 - Finishing up form for 1 of the retaining walls 10/21/09 - Things are starting to come together. 10/22/09 - 3 PM waiting on the cement trucks. These walls are 10 to 12 feet high 10/22/09 @ cement trucks going at once. These guys are fearless. I would not want to fall.
10/22/09 - There's a happy camper. It took me 3 days to get 1 of them to smile. Donuts and coffee did not even work. 10/22/09 - Cement drivers have the best job. This is work. 10/22/09 - 2 Trucks going @ once. Look how tall the walls are. 3' need to be underground for frost. We are going to have 9' basement walls. 10/22/09 - This ramp was built this morning specifically for the cement truck.  They would not have been able to pour over the height of the wall without it.  The terrain of our site has changed like 5 times since the beginning of this project.10/22/09 - This ramp was built this morning specifically for the cement truck.
10/22/09 - Another view of the ramp 10/22/09 - Concrete is just about to fly. 10/22/09 - The last of the concrete being poured. The foundation walls took 6 trucks. Close to 60 yards of concrete. By 2:30 on Friday the foundation guys were gone and we had a foundation. here is my 1st view. What a thing of beauty.
This is our basement. We still have to waterproof the outside, put in the drainage, backfill and then pour the slab. But our home is starting to take shape. Retaining wall. This is next to our walk out basement. 10/23/09 - I have no idea how that got there. Now we really own it. I think the Flintstone's moved in or something
This is our garage. Home Sweet Home

Well we hope you enjoyed another installment.  There should be more exciting stuff happening this week.
