Lisa & Adam Goldberg Deer Hill Blog #7

Hello All:

Its been a little over 2 weeks and a lot has happened.

We have had the foundation waterproofed, a lot of drainage installed, our conduits for our electric, cable & telephone run from the house to the street, temporary electric installed, the foundation has been backfilled and so much more.

Lisa and I went to New Hampshire to work on our Timber Frame.  That was really fun.  We got to plane our  beams, sand, router and apply a coat of conditioner to them.  We have some great pictures.  I spent 2 days and Lisa spent 1 day at Brooks' shop.

While we where gone the basement to our house got frames as well as the deck got built for the 1st floor.  This is needed so Brooks & Co. can install the Timber Frame.  Besides all of that, a lot of the items that we have ordered from Direct Buy have come in so we are busy picking those up as well.  We are still in the process of finalizing our lighting and plumbing fixtures.  That will be done this week.  Also our windows and doors will get ordered this week.

It is actually starting to look like a house.  Brooks is coming Tuesday to put up the post & beam,  Anyone in the neighborhood is welcome to come over and watch the installation.  It should be pretty cool.  They will be here Tuesday though Friday.  I may have to send another email because of all of the pictures.  Well here it goes.

11/2/09 - Drain for our gutters.  This will take the water out to a spreader in the woods.11/2/09 - Drain for our gutters. 11/2/09 - One pipe is for the gutters and the other pipe is called a footing drain.               It captures ground water around the base of the foundation and redirects it away.  The pipes get covered with stone and fabric .  Water will follow the stone away from the house, and the fabric keeps soil and leaves from clogging up the stone.11/2/09 - One pipe is for the gutters 11/2/09 - These are the pipes that take all of the water into the woods.  They will ultimately be covered with stone and have rip rap stone at the end to make the water spread and enter the wetlands without hurting the environment.11/2/09 - These are the pipes that take all of the water into the woods. 11/3/09 - You can see some waterproofing and that they have begun to backfill around the foundation walls11/3/09 - You can see some waterproofing
11/3/09 - Backfill around the North side of the house. 11/4/09 - Our walk out basement is backfilled!!! 11/4/09 - Look at all of those rocks. That's our garage backfilled. 11/4/09 - They filled our basement with stone. They did that because if they filled it with dirt it would settle and the cement slab would crack.11/4/09 - They filled our basement with stone
11/5/09 - Our garage is filled.  We actually had to buy, yes buy dirt to fill it.  The cost is in the trucking.  What a racket.               They get paid to remove the dirt from one site and then they get paid to put it somewhere else.  Are suckers or what?  That tube will be filled with concrete for our column to sit on.  We will not pour our slab until the spring so the dirt can settle. <br />11/5/09 - Our garage is filled. 11/5/09 - We were supposed to have a swale for the water to run down but decided to run a tube underground instead.  This is the top of the tube.11/5/09 - We were supposed to have a swale for the water to run down 11/5/09 - End of pipe run.  You can also see the end of the pipe run for the footing drains and the gutter drains.11/5/09 - End of pipe run. 11/6/09 - Now our garage is filled with stone.  We actually can walk on it. pretty cool.11/6/09 - Now our garage is filled with stone.
11/7/09 - I am drinking my organic chocolate milk in my basement. 11/7/09 - here we are standing in our garage with "The Oz" 11/8/09 - Lisa digging a trench for the plumbing that is going under the slab.  it was 65 degrees this day.11/8/09 - Lisa digging a trench for the plumbing 11/8/09 - Lisa saying 11/8/09 - Lisa saying "hey Adam why am I doing all the work?
11/8/09 - So here I am helping to dig the plumbing trenches. 11/8/09 - Lisa watching me work. Satisfaction. 11/8/09 - Peter joins in the fun. He gets fancy with a between the legs throws. 11/9/09 - The rough plumbing has been put down and now we are ready to pour the slab.  The inspector came and gave his approval.11/9/09 - The rough plumbing has been put down
11/9/09 - Another picture of the rough plumbing in the slab. 11/10/09 - The wire mesh and plastic for the slab 11/10/09 - The beginning of the pouring of the slab. 11/10/09 - Here we go with the concrete again.
11/10/09 - Looking good. The slab is underway. 11/10/09 - The sono tubes for the porch.  Jay from Rocky Ridge helped with the cement pour and he & I put in the metal pins.11/10/09 - The sono tubes for the porch. 11/10/09 - What a pretty slab 11/10/09 - The line in the middle is a zip strip.  It helps reduce cracking in the slab.11/10/09 - The line in the middle is a zip strip
11/10/09 - Our engineered wood is getting delivered for the decking to be built. 11/10/09 - Oops.               Wipe out.  He had to drive that all the way to the job site.  The wheels on that vehicle turn 360 degrees.               Pretty cool.11/10/09 - Oops. Wipe out 11/10/09 - The load is about to be dropped in our garage. 11/10/09 - More drainage going in.  This will take water above away from the house that is above the septic system.  We have more drainage.11/10/09 - More drainage going in.
