Lisa & Adam Goldberg Deer Hill Blog #7 Con't

Written by Lisa & Adam Goldberg

Sorry about the delay.

I had it all finished last night and then somehow deleted it by mistake.  So here is my 2nd try.

To update the blog as well the timber frame starting getting erected on Tuesday.  We have a lot of cool pictures.  Lisa, Peter and I got our tool belts out and where banging nails.  It was awesome.  Those pictures will come in blog #8.  All we can say is that this has been a spectacular process.

We have been able to take part in every process.  Today I was making sure that all of the rough openings for the windows and doors are correct so that the sip panels will be cut correctly. What a tedious task.  Almost as tedious as the blog.  The blog is more fun though .  Well here are the pictures of us in New Hampshire working on our frame.

11/13/09 - Peter took these pictures while we were in NH. 11/13/09 - We have windows. 11/13/09 - Working on the rafters. This is all engineered product. 11/13/09 - This is rip rap rock at the top of the pipe that we installed instead of the swale. <br />11/13/09 - This is rip rap rock at the top of the pipe
11/13/09 - A view fro peter & bettylou's deck. 11/13/09 - Lisa is sanding a brace. 11/13/09 - Having a great time.  Its more fun to play at someone else's job than to work at yours.11/13/09 - Having a great time. 11/13/09 - Joe is drilling a hole for a peg.
11/13/09 - There is a peg getting ready to be pounded in.  Also there are 3 splines already in the post.11/13/09 - There is a peg getting ready to be pounded in. 11/13/09 - Part of our house ready to be wrapped up and moved to CT. 11/13/09 - Lisa using a planer to get the brace smooth. 11/13/09 - Look @ the concentration
11/13/09 - Joe is making sure that the notch is just right for the spline. 11/13/09 - Using a chisel to make it perfect. 11/13/09 - In goes the spline.  The spline give the frame added support and allow them to install the frame one beam @ a time.  Its really amazing to watch.11/13/09 - In goes the spline. 11/13/09 - There is something to be said for perfection.
11/13/09 - The finished product. 11/13/09 - Planing a brace. She is real serious about her work. 11/13/09 - Now the master @ work. Look @ the shavings fly. 11/13/09 - Using the flat planer. This was hard work but really fun.  We learned a lot.11/13/09 - Using the flat planer.
11/13/09 - Routering the edges. Look @ the concentration. 11/13/09 - Where did the edge go? 11/13/09 - This machine makes the notches for the splines. 11/13/09 - Here is a finished timber.
11/13/09 - The machine automatically cuts the timbers to length and cuts out the notches.  Phil the previous owner of Brooks made this machine.11/13/09 - The machine automatically cuts the timbers to length 11/13/09 - The timber is getting cut to length 11/13/09 - Joe is planing a finished timber 11/13/09 - Now he is routering it.
11/13/09 - Here is a picture of the whole machine.  This machine is computer driven and as I said earlier, this machine was built by the previous owner of Brooks.11/13/09 - Here is a picture of the whole machine. 11/13/09 - Lisa sealing a brace.  This is a all natural sealer that uses pine pitch.11/13/09 - Lisa sealing a brace. 11/13/09 - Adam helping Lisa with the sealing. 11/13/09 - Here I am planing a beam.  The groove that you see is so that they can run electrical lines for our lighting in the beam.11/13/09 - Here I am planing a beam.
11/13/09 - The shavings are flying 11/13/09 - Look at that strength. Moving that beam all by myself 11/13/09 - Not bad for a desk jockey 11/13/09 - I even impressed myself.
11/13/09 - Sealing the beam. Everything gets sealed. 11/13/09 - Routering the beam. Look @ that precision. 11/13/09 - Before and after shoot. 11/13/09 - Our work stacked up.
11/13/09 - How proud am I? 11/13/09 - More of our handiwork 11/13/09 - This is our porch. Its ready to get shipped out to CT.11/13/09 - This is our porch. 11/15/09 - Electric transformer shell
11/15/09 - Lisa & The Oz on the 1st floor deck. 11/15/09 - Our walkout basement. We have 2 sliding doors going there. 11/15/09 - Bedroom window in the basement and a very happy Lisa. 11/15/09 - Our basement is pretty tall. We have 9' ceilings. Also very large windows.
